Route information:
1st Day :
Athens - Pigi Magganiari - Refuge E.O.S Spartis 1550m.
Our entire activity starts from the source of Magganiaris at 980 m. altitude in the direction of the E.O.S Spartis refuge at 1550 m. altitude. Through a green fir forest and a well-marked trail and after about 1.5 hours of hiking we will reach the shelter where we will have lunch, laugh, chat and rest. The best time at the lodge is when all the lights are turned off to save energy where we can admire perhaps the clearest sky we have ever seen. In the evening of the first day there will be the necessary information for the participants about the hike and the difficulties of the following day.
- Duration: 2 hours (with stops)
- Distance: 4,5 km approximately
- Altitude Range: +400 m
2nd Day :
Refuge E.O.S Spartis 1550m - Top Prof. Ilias – Refuge – Pigi Manganiari – Athens
At 2 in the morning we will wake up so that we can prepare our things and start our ascent to catch the sunrise admiring the power of nature to create the pyramid phenomenon in front of us. If we are lucky we will be able to see the White Mountains of Crete. The route to the top is demanding, also because of the morning awakening, but it will surely reward us once again with the images we will see during it. As soon as we reach the top we will rest admiring the greatness of nature living unique moments. Drones and cameras are welcome to capture these moments. Afterwards, we will return from the same route to the refuge to eat the breakfast that the refuge will offer us and slowly we will depart for the Magganiari spring and take the way back.
- Duration: 7 Hours (with stops)
- Distance: 15 km approximately
- Altitude range: +900 m
Important nformation:
- Taygetus, also known as the Holy Mountain, is full of legends, the most famous of which says the pyramid was created by a man who carved the mountain to get this shape.
- Full of gorgeous gorges, running water, spruce, and cypress trees creating a landscape out of a fairytale.
- Taygetos was named after Taygetis, one of the daughters of Atlas, the so-called Atlanteans, who, ashamed of her unintentional mating with Zeus, ended her life by falling off a cliff of the mountain.
