Activity Description

Emblematic - Unique - Mythical!

Live a unique two days on the highest mountain in Greece. Most Greeks have it on their list!

As we ascend the paths of the mythical mountain, we will experience the awe that Daniel - Baud Bovy, Fred Boissonas and Christos Kakalos felt when they first stepped on the top and it was reflected in the phrase written by Boissonas: “We have arrived! The first people, after the gods left "

A unique complex of 55 peaks, ravines and gorges awaits us to explore. We will visit the cave where one of the greatest contemporary Greek painters, Vassilis Ithakisios, lived, from the glacial geological formations in Petrostrouga with the Sarakatsani huts. But what will captivate us will be the view coming out at the top of Skourta! In front of us is the "Neck", the path on the edge that leads to the plateau, with the background of the "Wreath" or otherwise "Throne of Zeus". The bravest arriving at the plateau will prepare for the climb to Mytikas for which we will use safety equipment and will need about 2-3 hours. At this time those who choose can enjoy the view from the Prophet Elias or the Doors, or rest in one of the two shelters of the Plateau until it is time to return to Gortsia.

Program:

Day 1: Ascent from Gortsia - cave of North Ithaca - Petrostrouga

Our ascent starts from Gortsia and takes place in a dense forest with alternations of beech, fir, pine and at the end the impressive robola. On our way we will pass by the cave where the great painter Vassilis Ithakisios lived. In the shelter we will find organized cuisine that serves delicious meals and we will arrange them in the dormitories of the shelter and we will enjoy the comfort of its living room

  • Distance: 6 km
  • Positive altitude: 886 meters
  • Estimated climb time: 3-4 hours

Day 2: Ascent Plateau - Mytika Peak (optional) - Petrostrouga - Gorzia

Our day will start early in the morning and depending on the season we will see the impressive sunrise either from the shelter or going up to Skourta. Once we reach Skourta, our gaze will be captivated by the view of the throne of Zeus and the impressive Plateau of the Muses. Once we reach the plateau the mountain guide will inform about the ascent and the procedures that will be followed, the ascent to Mytikas is optional and it is at the discretion of the mountain guide to judge the conditions and possibilities of the members for the ascent to Mytikas. Those from the group who choose to stay on the plateau or are judged to be safer for them will have time to enjoy the two shelters and the separate view from the Doors to the Cauldrons of Olympus and from Profitis Ilias the endless blue of the Aegean, where it joins Thermaikos gulf, Pieriki coast with the background of Halkidiki and Athos. As soon as the team returns from Mytikas we will start our return for Gortsia, a short stop in Petrostruga to get the things we will have left so that they do not weigh us down, a short stop for a drink or a light snack and another 2 hours to arrive in our cars.
