Activity Description

Discover the various paths that lead to Olympus’ peaks. Get off the beaten path and explore the mythical mountain’s hidden gems.

The activity is carried out in small groups and with the assistance of professionals who have completed the routes. The goal is to reconnect with nature and learn about the stories hidden along each path.

Day 1: West to East of Olympus

Litochoro, Migotzidis, Ag. Antoni, Scolio, Plateau of the Muses, and Petrostruga for the first day’s meeting.

There will be a morning gathering at 7:00 in the Litochoro parking area for the purpose of checking equipment and providing program details. From there, we’ll take a bus to KEOAX (military camp), our day’s beginning point, so please park your cars at Litochoro. Until we reach the eastern side of Olympus below the alpine zone, we will spend most of our journey under the sun, because the western side of the mountain is barren of vegetation even at low altitudes. You should bring a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, plenty of water, and some snacks in case you get hungry along the course.

We’ll begin at the camp and make our way past Migotzidis and Ag. Antonios shelters before ascending Skolio for a breathtaking perspective of Mytikas and Stefani from the back site and of course the Great Kazania! We leave Skala and travel down the Golgotha, then turn left at the fork to reach the plateau of the Muses, where we’ll stop for rest. Following a few beers or a light supper, as desired, we’ll head out along the trail to the breathtaking Laimos, and from there we’ll determine our final destination to the Petrostrouga refuge, where we’ll spend the night. Here, we can refuel with dinner and a few minutes of stargazing before turning in for the night.

  • Driving hours: 2′ 15”
  • Hiking time: 8-9 hours
  • Distance: 17 km
  • Gain altitude: 1470 meters
  • Accommodation: in a mountain refuge, in bunk beds.
  • Meals: dinner at the mountain refuge

Day 2: Petrostrouga – Gkorstia – Enipeas

While today’s hike is easier than yesterday’s, we still have to complete 12 kilometers. Walking sticks are a must today because the distance is great but the terrain is mostly downhill, making the going easier. From Gorcia, we’ll travel a path that drops precipitously at first but eventually meets up with the path that links the Bundola refuge and Prionia. From here, we’ll head down towards Litochoro by way of the well-marked section of sunny Enipeas, passing by the stunning steep slope of Zilnia on the way. A route that is far more manageable and pleasurable than the alternate one. When we reach Lako of Litochoro, we’ll be able to cool off with a beer and soak our tired feet in the freezing water.

*At this time, we’d like to express our gratitude to Lazaros Rigos and the rest of the Olympus Mythical Trail crew for their contributions to the trail’s creation, opening, and upkeep.
