2-day Camp in Neda with Canyoning and River Trekking on 19/9

RIVER TREKKING

Neda is a river in the western Peloponnese and the only one with a female name. It originates from Mount Lycaeus, flowing west and flowing into the Ionian Sea. The river took its name from the nymph Neda who was a water deity. Near the river is the ancient city of Figalia and the temple of Epicurean Apollo. The river, for the most part, crosses a ravine with very rich vegetation where many waterfalls are created with the largest falling from a height of about 25 meters. Neda is another well-hidden jewel of Greece and a perfect choice for hiking.

The hike and the meeting point with your driver is on the bridge of Figalia near the village of Platania. After a brief briefing we start walking in the river. You may need to step on rocks or jump on the river bank in search of the best route. Walking in the water is inevitable, while in other places swimming is absolutely necessary. Along the river there is rich vegetation with plane trees. Waterfalls suddenly appear before our eyes and in some areas the river narrows and is surrounded by steep cliffs. After 4 hours of walking and swimming, we reach the last and most impressive waterfall of 25 meters. At the point where it falls, a lake is created with crystal clear, turquoise waters. We will swim in this lake and under the big waterfall. The most daring will try to go down with a rope until the opening of the Stomio cave.

CANYONING

The canyoning experience here in Neda is the perfect way to take your first steps and get addicted to the magical world of canyoning in a natural water park. Canyoning is the descent of a gorge using various techniques and methods using ropes. Quite often we will use the ropes, we will descend to the waterfalls, sometimes we can jump into the water from above and other times where the gorge forms natural slides we can slide. There is also plenty of swimming, some walking, a little climbing and a lot of climbing. At the beginning we will attend a short but comprehensive training by our trainer and guide and then we will wear the uniforms, helmets and equipment. The sequel is an incredible game with a mix of the above experiences. We end the day by descending with a rope the last waterfall of the route which is the largest with a height of about 25 meters.

TWO-DAY PROGRAM

SATURDAY 19 | 09 | 2020: Meeting at Figalia Bridge at 11.30, distribution of the necessary equipment and we are preparing for a magnificent river trekking on the mythical river. After about 4 hours we reach the place where we will camp.

We will spend the night on a level and shady by the river. At this point we will taste homemade food and wine next to the camp and enjoy the magical evening. We observe the night sky dome and locate known constellations.

SUNDAY 20 | 09 | 2020: We wake up at 08.00 and gather our camp. We enjoy our breakfast and get ready for Canyoning…. Distribution of all the necessary technical equipment, short but comprehensive training by our instructor and guide and we walk about 30 minutes to enter the gorge. The sequel is an incredible game with a mix of the above experiences. We end the day by descending with a rope the last waterfall of the route which is the largest with a height of about 25 meters. Return time approximately at 15.00

CAMPING

OVERNIGHT: at a point by the river. We make sure we have the essentials: tent, substrate, sleepping bag

LIGHT - WATER - TELEPHONE: in the camp there is no access to an electrical outlet, a telephone device other than our mobile phone. It is recommended to all participants to have with them at least 3 liters of water and their mobile phones fully charged.

WC & SANITARY FACILITIES: there are no toilets and showers at the campsite. The alternative is a small pit in the ground, at least 100 meters from the space where the tents will be set up. We will provide you with a paper bag and a shovel to dig and then cover the pit.

Wet, antibacterial wipes are also very useful at camping and more generally in travel as it is the easiest and fastest solution of freshness and cleanliness. Do not hesitate to have with you the necessary personal items and personal hygiene items such as: Wet wipes, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Personal Pharmacy, Contact Lens Liquid etc, Food, Electrolytes.

WE PROVIDE 1 full dinner with cooked food, salad and wine (Saturday night), 1 hearty breakfast that includes Greek coffee or tea (Sunday morning).

Degree of difficulty

The excursion is suitable for everyone, even for children aged 16 and over. A basic condition is that there are no movement problems and that there is a good physical condition. No previous experience required.
