MYCENEAN BRIDGE "ARKADIKOU" (KAZARMA BRIDGE)

The Arkadikos Bridge, also known as the Barracks Bridge is considered the oldest preserved bridge in Europe and probably in the world as well as the oldest single-arched bridge that remains in use to this day. The bridge was built in the Bronze Age, probably in the 13th century BC. and was part of the road network built by the Mycenaeans in the region of Argolida, to connect Epidaurus with Mycenae and Tiryns.

The bridge is made of giant boulders, characteristic of the Cyclopean Mycenaean structures. It is 22 meters long, 5.6 meters wide and 4 meters high.

THE ASCLIPEIO OF EPIDAURUS

In the hinterland of Epidaurus in an area with a mild climate and abundant springs and thermal waters, in a place dedicated from prehistoric times to deities with healing properties, the cult of Asclepius was established in antiquity.

Asclepius was the patron god of human health and personal happiness and his sanctuary at Epidaurus was the most important healing center of both the Greek and Roman worlds.

His fame exceeded the local limits and the Asclepieion of Epidaurus was the center of the cult of Asclepius and medical science for the spread of his worship and practices throughout the Mediterranean resulting in the establishment of hundreds of "subsidiary" sanctuaries.

Come and tour the archeological site of Epidaurus following the course of the ancient patients / visitors.

Starting from the Propylaea, we will go to the Temple of Asclepius, the Tholos, the Avaton, the baths, the Origin, the Stadium and the Theater to meet the hero-doctor who was worshiped as a god healer for many centuries, to learn more about the process of healing in antiquity and to tell stories of miraculous healings.
