Two-day circular climb to the top of Olympus - Mytikas

The program in detail

Departure in the morning from Thessaloniki to Litochoro or meeting in Litochoro, for those who have their own vehicle.

1st day

From Litochoro we go up by road, to the forest location "Gortsia" about 1,100 meters altitude. From here we start the ascent following the route "Gortsia" - "Petrostruga" - Mouson Plateau. In a 6 kilometer course with an Altitude Difference (LD) of about 900m. we meet the shelter of Petrostruga. The time it takes is usually around 3 hours. On our hike, we will admire the biodiversity of our National Forest. The forest consists mainly of beeches, pines and firs. We will certainly be impressed by the fairy-tale Robolas and by the diversity of the low vegetation and flowers. The shelter of Petrostruga is fully organized and there is the possibility of eating, resting and even staying overnight if necessary.

Then the route initially continues on a path with trees (robola) which soon disappear as we enter the alpine field. To the Plateau of the Muses and the shelter that exists there, we travel a distance of about 6 km with an altitude of 700 m. while the required time is approximately 3.5 hours. On the Plateau (2650m. altitude) we find the "Jiosos Apostolidis" shelter, which is also fully organized. The lodge is modest but really gives you a strong sense of hospitality. The menu is always delicious and the drinks suitable to relax you.

2nd day

The climb to the top of Mytikas at 2918 will take place Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning depending on the weather conditions and the mood of the group. The ascent will be made with the use of appropriate safety climbing equipment (helmet, climbing belt, rope) and accompanied by experienced guides, climbing instructors. . The time to the top is about 3 hours.

The descent will be to the shelter "Spilios Agapitos" (2100m) and from there to Prionia, where we find the cars. After reaching the top, we continue our course (4.5 thousand yd -900m) to the shelter "S. Dear” for about 2 hours. In this part of the route we follow the "Zonaria", a path that passes under the highest peaks of Olympus (Stefani, Mytikas, Skala) offering a perfect view of the Enipea gorge, Litochoro and the sea.

The last part of our route is inside the Enipea gorge where from the S. Agapitos shelter we will reach the location of Prionia. We will need to travel 4.5 km with an altitude difference of 1000m. while the total descent time is approximately 4.5 hours.

At the sawmills we will have a meeting with a hearty and wonderful meal made with love and a wonderful environment. Return to Litochoro with the most beautiful memories.
