2-day hike to the top of Mount Parnon

Join us on a magical autumn journey to the summit of Mount Parnonas!

Mount Parnonas is a mountain range known for its remarkable aesthetics and natural beauty, situated between the regions of Arcadia and Laconia in Greece. This two-day adventure combines the beauty of nature with the rich traditional culture of the area.

Itinerary:

• Our hiking journey begins on Saturday, October 28, 2023, departing from Athens and heading to the Lepida Waterfalls. The trail will lead us to these impressive waterfalls, where water cascades from a height of over 70 meters, offering breathtaking views. The world of azure waterfalls will accompany us throughout the hike until we reach the magnificent large waterfall.
• At the end of the morning hike, we arrive at the remarkable village of Kastanitsa. Here, a path filled with chestnut trees awaits us, providing an opportunity to relax and enjoy the unique nature of Mount Parnonas. The hike concludes at the central square of a picturesque village, where we can savor a delicious meal with traditional local flavors.
• The final stop of the day is the Parnonas Mountain Refuge, where we can unwind by the fireplace with tea and enjoy sweet cake. However, the day doesn't end here! Observing the night sky from Mount Parnon is a unique experience, as our accommodation is renowned for its excellent stargazing opportunities. The refuge's location is ideal for amateur astronomers, as it hosts global and national gatherings for stargazing enthusiasts.
• On Sunday morning, we embark on a journey to the highest peak of Mount Parnon, the Great Tourla, through a beautiful 15-kilometer hiking route. Mount Parnon, with its 1,934 meters in height, stands as a spectacular presence that separates Arcadia from Laconia and extends for over 100 kilometers. The mountain boasts a diverse range of flora, including fir trees, black pine, and the rare cedar, as well as oak, plane trees, and carob trees. We will also discover an abundance of tea and mushrooms during our exploration of Mount Parnon. Cherry, walnut, fig, and vine trees are also prevalent.
• As we return from the summit, we will collect our equipment from the refuge and depart for the picturesque village of Vamvakou. This village, nestled in an idyllic mountain landscape, holds historical and cultural significance, as well as natural beauty. The local community has revitalized the village, offering a restaurant, café, school, and activities for both locals and visitors.
• In conclusion, Vamvakou, founded in the 15th century, combines its history with the natural beauty of Mount Parnonas. Today, it belongs to the Municipality of Oinountas in the Municipality of Sparta, in the region of Laconia. It is a place worth exploring, offering a diverse heritage and an unforgettable experience at the summit of Mount Parnonas.
