Hiking in Loulouga Waterfall
Activity Description
Loulouga waterfall is an impressive natural monument and it constitutes one of the first gorges which are connected with the summit of Big Tourla (the highest summit of the Parnonas range). It is located under the picturesque village, Sitena, which is separated into two areas due to the ravine which ends up in the gorge of Loulouga.
On its course this gorge is linked with the gorges of Koutoupou, Spilakia, and Mazia on location Tripotama, forming the gorge of Zarbanitsa and the Vrasiati river. The river flows into the bay of Agios Andreas (Myrtoo Sea) and its name comes from the ancient town of Vrasies which is located close to Leonidio.
The route starts walking along Spiliakia gorge heading to the amphitheatrically built Platanos. It is an area with a rich variety of landscapes, beautiful ponds, and high rocks. The area is surrounded by the Halepiou fir forest and the oak forest of Sela (sandle), which is located in Virgin Sela in Platanos and has been declared a natural monument. The micro-climate of the area allows the co-existence of various trees (cherry, walnut, chestnut, and olive trees).
The natural beauties among high plane trees, countless caves, and lots of small waterfalls capture the visitors immediately with the highlight of the impressive Loulouga waterfall, whose waters fall from 30-40m high.
