Hiking in the Thyreatic Plain
Activity Description
The starting point of this route is the Aginites’ Wall, 424 BC, heading to Atsigganos beach, which is at the back part of the island of Paralio Astros.
Following the path to the top of the hill, the medieval castle Castello Della Estella can be seen. The view from this point is panoramic and the visitors can admire the Argolic Gulf, Nafplio, and the plain of Astros.
Through the picturesque narrow streets of the village, the route goes on to Moustos wetland. Moustos is one of the two wetlands in eastern Peloponnese and belongs to the European Natura network. It is a shelter for a significant number of migratory birds, such as wild swans, herons, and scoots that winter there.
After Heronisi lake, a hill starts to be seen, also known as “the island of Ag. Andreas”. On the top of the hill, it was built the ancient town Anthini (4th-5th century BC). Fortification Cyclopean ruins can be seen around the place.
At this point, we have a break as the great view and the positive energy make up the ideal place for a picnic.
