Embarking on the journey above the monastery, visitors are greeted by a forest adorned with ancient giants—among them, the venerable Kefallinian Fir (Abies Cephalonica) and the resilient Black Pine (Pinus Nigra). Along this path lies Europe's sole cedar forest (Juniperus drupacea), sprawling across 740 acres, designated as a cherished natural monument and integrated into the Natura 2000 network.
Descending towards the village, travelers trace the meandering course of the Tanos River. Nestled on the northern slopes of Mount Parnon, at an elevation of 952 m, lies the timeless village of Agios Petros. This traditional village has an endless supply of natural products and abundant water sources, known as ‘piges’. Upon arriving to Agios Petros, hikers will have the opportunity, if they wish, to enjoy a local traditional lunch from one of the few taverns.
