Hiking to the Castle of Oria, Xirokambi
Activity Description
The Beauty’s castle is located southwest of the Ksirokabi plateau, between the villages Agiannis and Ag. Petros. According to historical sources, it was built by the Franks in 1256. The ruins of the settlement, the fortified yards of the castle as well as its connection with the folk legend of the beautiful lady, carry the visitors through the rich history and the glorious past of the area.
The route starts from Agianni village heading to the mountain Sarantapsiho (40 souls). From the top of the mountain, the Argolic Gulf and the shiny tops of Parnona and other mountains of Peloponnese can be seen.
A mild downhill slope with a view of the marvelous Lepida gorge leads to the foot of a pyramid-shaped hill, where on its hill a castle is built. The uphill part which is next might be a bit demanding, but the panoramic view of the spacious area of the summit is amazing. The whole scenery is completed with the Lepida waterfall which is on the east, steeper side of the castle.
On the return to Agianni, the path goes through the springs of the gorge, crossing the Ksirokabi plateau.
The taverns of the village offer food with local products.
