• Upon disembarking, we wasted no time and promptly hit the trail. Our route guides us through the picturesque gorge of Sougia, surrounded by the grandeur of nature.
• As we ascend, the ancient village of Lissos unfolds before us. Renowned for its Temple of Asklepios, once a bustling hub for healing and thermal baths, Lissos' mosaic floor, adorned with intricate animal depictions and geometric patterns, stands as a testament to its former splendor despite falling victim to an earthquake.
• Leaving Lissos in our wake, our run continues, descending to a plateau before ascending a second hill. At the summit, we're treated to awe-inspiring vistas of the sea, where the tranquil beauty of the coastline unfolds, leaving you breathless in the best possible way.
• Running along the coastline, with Crete's blue seas on one side and magnificent mountains on the other, our next destination is Galiskari Beach. The inviting waters beckon for a refreshing dip, providing the perfect opportunity to cool off, relax, and recharge before pressing on.
• Revitalized and energized, we resume our run along a dirt road, retracing our steps back to Paleochora.
• As we journey back, take in the remaining beauty of the landscape, savoring the final moments of this unforgettable trail.
• This approximately 9-mile (15-kilometer) trail offers a diverse mix of technical, single-track, and dirt road sections, providing a dynamic running experience. Each step brings you closer to ancient history, natural wonders, and the allure of the coastline.
