Activity Description

First day

Thermopylae:

Start at 8.00 am. - 211 km from Athens - 2.30 hours drive.

Thermopylae is world famous for the battle that took place between the Greek forces (mainly the Spartans) and the invading Persian forces. Thermopylae is the only land route long enough to support significant traffic between Locris and Thessaly. This passage from north to south along the eastern coast of the Balkan Peninsula uses the pass and for this reason, in Thermopylae, many battles have been fought.

Thermal springs: 10 km from Thermopylae - 10 minutes drive - 30 minutes stop.

Thermopylae derives half its name from its thermal springs. This river is formed by steaming water that smells of sulfur. In the background, modern bath buildings can be seen. In ancient times the springs created a marsh.

Pavliani: 35 km from the thermal springs - 40 minutes drive - 2 hours stop.

With respect, love, and passion for the preservation, promotion, and protection of the environment, Pavliani joins the Habitat Agenda pilot program for the sustainable development of villages and the execution of pilot projects for their upgrading.

Pavliani Park is a unique natural park in Greece at the springs of Aesopos, the visitor is ecstatic through a magical path, which reflects the colors of the centuries-old trees and waters, which ends in the heart of the natural park.

Lunch at Pavliani -  stop 30 minutes.

Kalambaka: 189 km from Pavliani - 2.30 hours driving - free schedule - rest.

Kalambaka is a town in the Prefecture of Trikala and is the capital of the Municipality of Meteora. It is located in the center of Greece and extends to the northwestern part of the Thessalian Plain. It is built next to the rare geological phenomenon of Meteora, while the Pinios River passes next to it.

Second day

Visit 4 Monasteries in Meteora.

Start at 9.00am to Meteora - 6 km. - 10 minutes driving - 5 hours guided tour of 4 monasteries.

The "beastly" rocks of the humble ascetics. In Thessaly, the complex of imposing rocks rises above Kalambaka, between Pindos and Antichasia. Monasticism began here in the 11th century when ascetic monks left Mount Athos and came to Thessaly to practice in the caves of the vast rocks. In the 14th century, Saint Athanasios Meteorites organized the first communal community, founding the monastery of Megalo Meteora. Monks from other regions of Greece followed, founding 20 monasteries. The 4 most popular ones we make.

Kamena Vourla: from Meteora - 183 km. - 2 hours & 20 minutes drive - 30 minutes stop for lunch.

Kamena Vourla is a seaside town in the province of Fthiotida. They are located on the northern coast of the Northern Euboean Gulf, while the steep slopes of Mount Kameni are directly behind the city. The favorable location of Kameni Vourla near Athens, 175 km via the Athens-Thessalonica highway and 40 km from Lamia, and the combination of sea and wooded mountains, turned the area into a remarkable resort, especially during the 1960s and 1970. Today they are still an important tourist spa, attracting mainly from nearby areas, especially for its healing springs.
