Delphi
(3 hours stop - 182 km from Athens - 2.30 hours driving).
Delphi is located in upper central Greece, on several plateaus along the slope of Parnassus, and includes the Sanctuary of Apollo, the site of the ancient Oracle. This semi-circular spiral is known as Phaedriades and overlooks the valley of Pleistos.
In myths dating back to the classical period of Ancient Greece (510-323 BC), Zeus determined the location of Delphi when searching to find the center of his "Grandmother Earth" (Gaia). He sent two eagles flying from the east and west ends and the path of the eagles crossed Delphi where Gaia's umphalus or navel was found.
In the center of the earth, as Delphi was called, was the most important oracle of the ancient Greek world, whose fame exceeded the borders of Greece since ancient times, as evidenced by the findings of the excavations brought to discover tributes from Syria and Armenia. The oracle of Delphi was dedicated to the god Apollo, and Pythia, the pre-Atlantean, acted as the go-between to bring the oracle to the participants. The modern city of Delphi was built next to the archaeological site, at an altitude of 570m, overlooking the olive grove of Amfissa and the bay of Itea.
Parnassos - Livadi
(27 km from Delphi).
(30-minute stop) The Kalyvia Livadiou Arachova or Livadi, as it is now known, is a plateau at an altitude of 1,100 m and 10 km from Arachova and 13 km from Agoriani, while only 14 km from the Ski Center of Parnassos. Its central location on Parnassos played a key role in its development.rnAt Livadi one can enjoy various activities such as mountain biking, horse riding, archery, ice skating, and 4X4 driving.
Arachova
(15 km from Livadi – 20 minutes drive).
Arachova (or Arachova) is a mountain town in the Prefecture of Viotia built on the southern slopes of Parnassos at an altitude of 950 meters. It became the seat of the homonymous community until its end, while with the implementation of the Kallikratis program, it joined the new Municipality of Distomo-Arachova-Antikyra, of which it is a Municipal Unit. Its population according to the 2011 census is 2,657 inhabitants. It is a popular winter resort, thanks to the existence of a ski resort (which was recently expanded and renovated) and its short distance from Athens (153 km).
