Sea Kayak at Loutro, Sfakia, Crete
Activity Description
This is a lovely trip to one of the most protected areas in Crete, very close to the famous Samaria gorge. Previous experience is not required. The starting point is about an hour's drive from the town of Chania and is suitable for those staying in west Crete or near Rethymno town. The distance that we will paddle is about 15km and there will be plenty of time for swimming and snorkeling on remote beaches not accessible by cars. Experienced paddlers are welcome to join; if all are experienced in the group we can extend the trip to cover an extra 6km.
All paddling equipment is provided for the trip plus of course the guide.
OVERVIEW OF THE TRIP
There will be a short introduction to paddling for those that have no experience and afterward we will start paddling toward Loutro. On our way, we will make stops for both swimming and snorkeling. All stops will be on different beaches.
There are sea caves and wonderful beaches for swimming and snorkeling along our way to the small village of Loutro where we will stop for lunch. You can either eat in a tavern or you can bring your own lunch. The food in the village is excellent and there is a wide variety of food, including many dices for vegetarians.
Single or tandem (double) kayaks are available. People with no experience will be given a tandem kayak as it is easier to paddle. Experienced paddlers can get superb boats from Nigel Dennis, Valley, North Shore, and P&H.
ABOUT LOUTRO
It is believed that Loutro was the site of the ancient city of Finikas and was the port of ancient Anopolis. Later, it became the winter time port of the town of Sfakia, due to the fact that the bay and the small island at its entrance create a natural harbor where ships can be safe even in very bad weather conditions. Loutro is most likely the most protected bay for a kayak in Crete and is only accessed by kayak or any other boat plus of course by foot. There are no big hotels with swimming pools and no overcrowded streets, restaurants, or beaches and also there are no cars!

Transport is not available for this trip. You will need to meet us at our base in Ilingas beach.

Cancellation policy
- Cancellation 7 days or more prior to the agreed activity starting date. You are automatically reimbursed for the full activity price.
- Cancellation between 3 and 7 days prior to the agreed activity starting date. You are entitled to a 50% reimbursement.
- Cancellation 3 days or later are what we call last-minute cancellations. No reimbursements will be effected.
* If the activity is canceled by the activity provider (due to weather, non-completion of minimum entries, force majeure, etc.), the price of your activity, is refunded in full.

Notes: See map for the exact meeting point, it is at Ilingas beach, just 2.5km west from Chora Sfakion. If you travel by bus let us know in advance and we will arrange a pick up. We start by 10 am and finish between 4-5 pm. If time change for any reason you will be notified by email. Transport is not available for this trip.
